WOMEN’S Christmas: As Ireland celebrates Nollaig na mBan (Women’s Christmas) on 6 January, Julieann Moran, General Secretary of the Irish Synodal Pathway (pictured above) is drawing important parallels between the resurgence of this Irish tradition and the growing recognition of women’s contributions in the Catholic Church.  For centuries, Nollaig na mBan has been a day when women are given a break from the busy Christmas season to rest, socialise, and enjoy time with friends.  https://www.dioceseofkerry.ie/catholic-news-article/?ID=2

NEW YEAR: Starting a new year can be costly. Germans, for instance, send €100 to 200 million ($240 million) up in smoke every New Year's Eve, as spectacular fireworks displays light up the sky above villages and cities across the country. But the annual tradition also has an environmental cost, with each rocket releasing a toxic mix of chemicals and particulates into the air.

£6,000,000 Paid. Since then, he said, people with short memories had been endeavouring to put a different construction on the agreement, but the Executive Council would not stand for any other interpretation.

I’m coming to 89 next June. The three of us are close in age. Johnny (Culloty) will be 89 on New Year’s day. How’s he doing in Killarney? Connell (Micko) is younger than Johnny by a year, also born in January and I am in the middle.

Life is full of challenges and like everyone else, you faced them up. Like Jack Kennedy that great Dingle-born jockey who has suffered six leg breaks in his sporting career, you also broke legs.

No only the same leg twice and that time sure they didn’t know as much as they know now so it took a full year before I got back playing. That had to be your left leg.

BLESS: How to Bless Your Home on the Feast of the Epiphany in 2025

On the feast of the Epiphany, many Catholics bless their homes by writing the letters C, M, and B and the numbers of the year on the top of their front door frame with chalk.

This year, the sequence is: 20 + C + M + B + 25

This combination of letters and numbers holds a special meaning.

The letters represent two different things. First, they stand for the names of the three wise men: Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar. Secondly, they also represent the Latin blessing Christus mansionem benedicat, which translates to “May Christ bless this house.”

The crosses between each figure signify our salvation through Christ.
